Alex Townsend joined the staff of the Research Computing Center in 2019 while completing the final semesters of his Ph.D. in Computational Science at Florida State University. Alex holds B.S. degrees in Environmental Science and Computational Science and an M.S. degree in Computational Science from FSU. During his time as an undergraduate and graduate student, Alex has been involved in research in Geometric Morphometrics, Data Science, and Computational Bioacoustics.
He has been fascinated by supercomputers, software development, and the practical and scientific applications of supercomputing ever since he was an undergraduate and spent more than three years as a volunteer and intern pursuing those interests at the RCC prior to joining full time.
