Tropical storm Dorian is currently heading towards Florida and it might be heading towards Tallahassee for labor day. We will keep a close eye on this system and act accordingly. Updates will be sent out through the notice list and the RCC website.
The RCC is hiring a scientific application specialist to work on our team at FSU. If you're interested, you should apply!
MATLAB is offering free webinars. FSU has a campus agreement with MathWorks to provide MATLAB to all faculty, staff, and students.
This May, we will perform periodic maintenance on our HPC and Spear clusters. During this time, the HPC and Spear will be unavailable. We will also be performing brief maintenance on our storage system.
In May, we will perform our annual software upgrade. Approximately 500 packages will be upgraded to newer versions. We will be perform the upgrade sometime during the break between semesters; specific dates to be announced in early April. We expect the upgrade to take approximately one week.
We've recently upgraded our login nodes. Our nodes now connect to the GPFS storage system via a 10GB/s interface (a 10x improvement in speed).
We've updated our storage system, and increased our storage throughput by 40x. Additionally, we are making SFTP, RSYNC, and SCP available to our Archival Systems from FSU Campus
Our Sliger Renovation Project is moving forward. We are planning two outages in Summer, 2019 to accomdoate equipment upgrades. We are also going to be physically moving most customer racks on the server room floor.
We recently installed 40 new nodes in the HPC. This increased the cluster by 1600 cores (80 processors). Peak cluster performance is now 266 TeraFlops!
We are replacing the network cards in all of our HPC GPU nodes with 10Gpfs fibre cards. This will increase throughput to the storage system, and eliminate performance bottlenecks.
