We're Hiring! Digital Humanities Technology Specialist

The Research Computing Center at FSU has an open position for a Digital Humanities Technology Specialist. The specialist will provide programming consultation, technical advice, and troubleshooting support on behalf of a diverse array of researchers across the university who are engaged with Research IT. This position will intensely focus on the support of digital humanities, the arts, and social sciences. In addition, it will collaborate with FSU's Libraries and researchers, and students in the Digital Humanities program.

The specialist will engage with university researchers to understand the requirements of their research problems so that advanced technical expertise -- primarily involving humanities data (e.g., text data, metadata, linked open data) -- can be provided to them. In addition, the specialist shall work with other Research IT staff, members of the Digital Humanities community, and FSU libraries staff to provide the necessary expertise. This expertise includes consulting with potential RCC users, developing software, modifying source code, installing software, developing databases, and diagnosing complex software problems. Other responsibilities can be to mentor and train student interns assigned to application support tasks or research projects, for example, through the FSUIntern or UROP initiative. In addition, the specialist may participate in small research projects, either with RCC interns or with external research groups.

The Research Computing Center (RCC) is a small unit in FSU's Information Technology Services department, located on FSU's main campus. We are a team of 10 people and are responsible for central Research Computing for FSU. Notably, we manage several high-performance file systems, an 800-node cluster, and a server room for academic colocation services. In addition, we are actively expanding our services to nontraditional academic computing users, and this position is part of that strategic move.
